Entry 01
The town beach
Spratt Bight
a.k.a. Bahía Sardina, the North End beach
- Find your beach
Best for
Your first afternoon on the island, people-watching and sorting out boat trips.
What it is
The main beach in the North End, the island’s commercial centre, backed by a long pedestrian promenade lined with hotels, restaurants and shops.
Why go
This is where the famous colours of the sea meet real island life: braids, snacks, massages, kites and boat sellers on one stretch of sand. The boaters’ cooperative that takes people to Johnny Cay, El Acuario and Haynes Cay works from here, and it’s a spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Not a hidden gem — a very handy one.
How to visit
Walk or take the bus into the North End and follow the Spratt Bight promenade. Boats to the nearby cays leave from this part of town — ask us about arranging this.
Field tips
- Since June 2026 a departmental decree bans bathers from San Andrés beaches between 6 pm and 6 am. Sunset swim: yes. Midnight dip: no.
- Buy boat trips from the boaters’ cooperative or a registered operator, never from a stranger with a laminated flyer — fake vouchers and fake agencies are a real thing here.
- If you hire a private boat, agree the price first and pay at the end of the trip, not before.
- Carry small notes in pesos: cash is still what most beach vendors take.
